Colour Explosions

Location:
Second Chance School of Assos Lecheon, Greece

Facilitators: Maria Karakatsani, Eirini Sofianou, Evangellos Kapinias, staff members and  facilitators of the Second Chance School Assos – Lecheon

A group of local people and friends of students were brought together to learn about mixing colours in a free, uninhibited way. They were men and women aged between 20 and 50 years.

The adult learners drew figures on cardboard, aided by facilitators. They then fixed the cardboard shapes onto a wall, which they had already prepared as if it were a colour canvas.

The participants threw various different colours onto this ‘canvas’. The cardboard ‘stencil’ was then carefully removed to reveal dynamic pictures.

The activity provided a way to learn about colour combinations while having fun. The group viewed this project as a pleasant diversion from everyday routine.

They discovered that artistic exploration does not need to follow a specific form and that there does not need to be a particular outcome at the end of it.
