Artist Jake Attree

Artist Jake Attree ran two days of drawing activities for students and primary school pupils, and two days for weekend visitors.

Students, families and others gathered in a marquee equipped as a drop-in studio for friendly advice on perspective, proportion, composition, light and shade, and the different properties of drawing materials.

The event was part of Seeing the Whole Picture, a four-year Heritage Lottery-funded Collecting Cultures programme.

180 participants used their new skills to capture the colliery buildings in charcoal, or to contribute to a large-scale collaborative mural of the entire museum site.

Society of Architectural Illustration Award

The Society of Architectural Illustration (SAI) aims to promote public knowledge of architectural illustration and to interpret architecture for the public benefit.

This award recognises events that encourage direct illustration of the built environment, historic or contemporary, and raise awareness and understanding of local buildings and their impact on townscapes, or rural life.
