Drawing With Steel In The Face Of Steel
Anna Holdsworth, Marketing Assistant
Fiona Flynn, Magna's Resident Artist
Who says that science and art don’t mix? Magna, a former steel works, grasped a new challenge when it invited its visitors to draw using steel and scrap metals provided as inspiration. The results were bold and inventive, impressing the museum’s curators and participants. Other visitors returned to the scene to keep an eye on the artistic developments. There was plenty to see, as the drawing was on a massive scale matching its surroundings. Contributors provided plenty of man - and woman - power, and unusual individual interpretations of mark making.
Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards
The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust aims to increase public appreciation of the arts and music. Their awards recognise educators, artists, teachers and others who use The Big Draw to extend their audience’s perception of drawing and to engage them in innovative activities. They reward organisers whose events relate to their setting, local environment or community, show a clear purpose and good results. Individual drawings may have been used to create a collective artwork, or a public display to celebrate participants’ achievements.
