The museum’s purpose was to encourage visitors of all ages to explore its collection. The school aimed to unite the entire school community (aged 3-18) – together with parents, visitors and local people – in a day of creative drawing.

Museum staff and the King’s School's artist-in-residence offered plenty of guidance and encouragement. Visitors included family groups spanning two, three and four generations.

People decorated templates of cups, plates and pots, either creating their own designs or working from the rich and complex patterns in the collection.

Finally, everyone crossed the road to the school to hang their finished work on a gigantic, specially made dresser which, when full, was a riot of colour and pattern.

This Big Draw championed drawing as a creative medium for young people and their families, and brought many new visitors to the museum.

Manufacturing and retail have ceased at the Worcester porcelain site, so it is vital for the museum to demonstrate that it is active and well.

This enjoyable event connected Worcester residents with their rich heritage, and engendered pride in the young people, who gained an insight into Worcester porcelain’s significance.
