Look To The Future
Ray O’Neil, Head Teacher, staff, parents and Arts Express artist Heather Martin
Each class at Ivydale Primary School was asked to collect recyclable materials for this Big Draw event in celebration of its new eco-school status.
37 volunteers supported the children’s activities: parents, Arts Express staff and pre-registration Boots pharmacists on their community outreach day.
The youngest children studied the structures of insects and their habitats before weaving a walk-through spider’s web from string or making litterbugs from scrap.
Inspired by exciting visuals, the older children designed and made 3-D prototypes for green buildings, futuristic transportation and cyber suits from recycled materials.
Every child, and many parents, contributed to the impressive ‘Green Town’ installation, which filled the school hall and corridors.
Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards
The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust aims to increase public appreciation of the arts and music. Their awards recognise educators, artists, teachers and others who use The Big Draw to extend their audience’s perception of drawing and to engage them in innovative activities. They reward organisers whose events relate to their setting, local environment or community, show a clear purpose and good results. Individual drawings may have been used to create a collective artwork, or a public display to celebrate participants’ achievements.
