Celebrating the Pavilion's 75th Birthday

The event invited families to discover alternative entertainment – by responding to their surroundings creatively. Visitors on an artistic mission invaded the Pavilion, a modernist architectural icon, and their inspiration was the building itself. Lined with paper, interiors and exteriors provided blank canvases. Led by a team of artists, visitors drew details of the building and imagined their own additions – for instance new stair carpets.  A wide variety of interactive projects, using maps, stickers and even electrical tape as prompts, ensured a day out with an enjoyable creative twist. The completed installation remained in place for several weeks.

Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards

The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust aims to increase public appreciation of the arts and music. Their awards recognise educators, artists, teachers and others who use The Big Draw to extend their audience’s perception of drawing and to engage them in innovative activities. They reward organisers whose events relate to their setting, local environment or community, show a clear purpose and good results. Individual drawings may have been used to create a collective artwork, or a public display to celebrate participants’ achievements.
