Unfurling the Future

The University of Worcester sponsored two local primary schools to produce a collection of drawings and sketchbooks with the aim of making large banners to enhance the former Royal Infirmary site, its newly opened City Campus. Working with artists Alison Ogle and Claire Horacek, and illustrator Petr Horacek, the children created decorative alphabets, maps of their life journeys and future career paths, futuristic machines and cityscapes. They learned the value of self-expression and collaborative work, while focusing on the future – and their role in it. They are now looking forward to seeing their preparatory work exhibited in the city.

Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards

The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust aims to increase public appreciation of the arts and music. Their awards recognise educators, artists, teachers and others who use The Big Draw to extend their audience’s perception of drawing and to engage them in innovative activities. They reward organisers whose events relate to their setting, local environment or community, show a clear purpose and good results. Individual drawings may have been used to create a collective artwork, or a public display to celebrate participants’ achievements.
