College students mentor primary and secondary children

The workshop programme delivered by RCA graduates encouraged primary and secondary students in Southwark, Haringey and Wandsworth to explore drawing with paper. Using this familiar material, each workshop challenged students’ ideas about drawing, and showed them ways in which chance and intuition can play an exciting role in creative thinking. The participants worked both collaboratively and in highly individual ways; they spent two full days with Royal College of Art alumni making collage, animation and sculpture. The project invited participating teachers to work alongside their students and to explore new possibilities together.

Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards

The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust aims to increase public appreciation of the arts and music. Their awards recognise educators, artists, teachers and others who use The Big Draw to extend their audience’s perception of drawing and to engage them in innovative activities. They reward organisers whose events relate to their setting, local environment or community, show a clear purpose and good results. Individual drawings may have been used to create a collective artwork, or a public display to celebrate participants’ achievements.
