Take A Second Look
Andrew Hinton, Assistant Head Teacher
Engaging with Change
The event offered a wide range of exciting ways to explore the school’s landscape, architecture and creative atmosphere. As a school for students with severe learning disabilities, the new building itself provided inspiration for a day’s creativity. Having just moved to this site, students and staff used the event to discover more about their new facilities. Students were encouraged to be expressive in mark making, explore scale, use alternative media, and work collaboratively. They made full use of corridors and spaces in contributing to 'The Longest Drawing In the World'.
Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards
The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust aims to increase public appreciation of the arts and music. Their awards recognise educators, artists, teachers and others who use The Big Draw to extend their audience’s perception of drawing and to engage them in innovative activities. They reward organisers whose events relate to their setting, local environment or community, show a clear purpose and good results. Individual drawings may have been used to create a collective artwork, or a public display to celebrate participants’ achievements.
