Post-graduate students share skills with secondary school pupils
The Animatics workshops led by RCA post-graduate students at Haringey’s Park View Academy, Newham’s Cumberland School and Erith School explored the relationship between drawing and animation.
The workshops focused on storytelling, timing and communicating movement, and introduced traditional and new techniques – zoetropes, flipbooks, storyboards and sound design.
The structure of the sessions encouraged pupils to develop critical skills and gain confidence in discussing their work. Each group produced a substantial body of drawings, to be edited into animations for an exhibition at the RCA.
The private view provided an opportunity for proud pupils and parents to celebrate their achievements and for participants from three schools to meet and share experiences.
What did the workshop inspire the pupils to do in the future?
‘Draw! More! More! More!’ Liam, 13.
‘To use my imagination in ways I haven’t done before.’ Jack, 13.
