The "Big Drawing Fair" At Loreto!
Event organisers: Nicky Martins (Head of Art), Jenny Oziem (Art teacher), Ellie Greenwood (Artist in Residence), Sinead Blagbourgh (Art and Design Technician)
Also assisting in the organisation as "Stall Operatives" were the year 12 and 13 art students.
Loreto Grammar School saw its hall transformed into a thriving “Drawing Fair” for an entire lunch hour.
To promote drawing acroos the school we set up a number of stalls in the hall during students lunch hour. Each stall offered a different drawing game. Students and staff were eager to participate in the more alternative drawsing stalls, these included:
- Responding to the vibe of music using pastels attached to long sticks
- Observational drawing on acetates with marker pens
- Visually describing yourself on a Post-It note
- Drawing in response to a given shape
Also included were Pictionary Challenge and a Draw and Fold Over game.
We asked participants to bring in doodles to be photographed. The large response made it clear how many people draw in their spare time.
For every stall visited each person earned a sticker and for every 3 stickers a certificate was awarded. This was particularly popular with years 7 and 8 who proudly showed off the many stickers they’d earned.
This event created a wonderful atmosphere, a sense of freedom and peoples’ fear of drawing seemed to be eliminated. Through drawing we emphasised the importance of communication and friendship. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
