The Big Tile House Draw

Award:
Society of Architectural Illustration Award 2010
Location:
Akeley Wood School, Buckingham

Organised by Virginia Margerison

Housed in a Victorian building constructed of intricate brickwork, pupils discovered fresh ways to depict their school. They worked together to produce beautifully colourful, vivid drawings, which pushed their boundaries of observation and mark making. As the large-scale work took shape, pupils and teachers gained a sense of achievement in contributing fantastic artwork, both as individuals and as part of a team, to the final piece. The result – a giant panoramic view of the school– is now proudly displayed in the entrance hall.

Society of Architectural Illustration Award

The Society of Architectural Illustration (SAI) aims to promote public knowledge of architectural illustration and to interpret architecture for the public benefit.

This award recognises events that encourage direct illustration of the built environment, historic or contemporary, and raise awareness and understanding of local buildings and their impact on townscapes, or rural life.
