A joint event between Watford Borough Council, Watford Palace Theatre and London Drawing Company

Organised by Sophie Cady, Arts Development Officer, Watford Borough

Watford Borough Council, London Drawing Company and the Palace Theatre worked together to create a special 3-hour Saturday morning drawing event: Life Drawing…but even better. This year the Council decided to focus on local adults and to offer them an activity not normally available in their home town by subsidising the ticket price and materials. As a result, 60 adults took their seats in the stalls or circle for a mini art class before settling down to a slice of London Drawing Theatre magic, sketching the dramatic performance unfolding against a bold architectural stage set. Finally, a mini critique offered participants feedback from the workshop leaders and from others who took part.

The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust

The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust aims to increase public appreciation of the arts and music. Their awards recognise educators, artists, teachers and others who use The Big Draw to extend participants’ perception of drawing and to engage them in innovative activities. They reward organisers whose events relate to their setting, local environment or community, show a clear purpose and good results. Individual drawings may have been used to create a collective artwork, or a public display to celebrate participants’ achievements.
